Update (10/28):
I have re-named the “Institutional Tier” as “TMTB Pro Tier" so to be clear it’s available to everyone, not just those who work on the buyside.
Some of you have asked about a monthly Pro Tier option. I wanted to offer one but unfortunately substack’s functionality is extremely limited when it comes to offering different options/tiers (all I could do was offer pro-rated refunds with the annual option to make a “synthetic” monthly option). I would strongly prefer you sub annually through the subscription page, but if the upfront cost for the Pro Tier is truly cost prohibitive for you, I am happy to work something out with you. Send me an email with the subject: “Monthly Pro Tier”
Some of you have mentioned it might take longer than a few days to get expense approval from the product. If this is the case for you, please reach out to me and I will honor the original founding price even if you cannot sub by EOD Wednesday
Once the paywall goes up EOD wednesday, I will no longer be posting full earnings recaps or other full write ups on X (with a few exceptions like Friday’s Jassy vs. Yipit piece)
We are excited to announce that TMTB is launching paid subscriptions!
When I first started TMTB a couple months ago, I didn’t have many expectations; I just knew I wanted to launch a product as a new kind of TMT Specialist unlike anything else available on the street.
As a 15+ year buyside vet with a broad range of experience at different types of HFs – a TMT sector head at a $Bn+ HF which operated on longer time frames, a Tech PM at one of the large multi-manager pod shops, and as a prop trader – I’ve witnessed how the nature of the tech investing game has changed: the proliferation of alt data intra-q checks, pod shops operating on shorter time frames, heightened volatility, and the ever increasing importance of narratives, positioning, and sentiment has caused a permanent change in tech investing. Investors I speak to are increasingly feeling frustrated and discouraged. I was inspired to create a product that would capture and relay insight into all of these in a research-agnostic manner (unlike others on the sell-side).
Thanks to your sharing and recommendations to friends and colleagues across the street, we have grown to over 2k+ subs in a short amount of time. The response from our readers has been overwhelmingly positive. My favorite of the bunch:
Couldn’t have said it better!
In addition to our work as a daily “TMT specialist on steroids,” we have also made several bold calls when our conviction has been high:
We made a highly controversial call and got cautious on AMZN near its 52wk highs on Sept 17th before anyone on the sell side had called out potential risks to Q4. Stock fell 16% before earnings. See here.
On Thursday morning, we flipped and said that AMZN sentiment had taken a complete 180 since our cautious call and we went long into the print. Stock rallied 7% on Friday. See here.
We wrote up MSFT as our favorite large cap earnings idea on Oct 1st and called out a likely Azure acceleration. See here
We got cautious the QQQs on Sept 17th before it dropped 6%, calling out weakening fundamentals in large cap tech before the narrative had taken hold. See here.
We called out a potential near-term bottom in the QQQs on Sept 27th and called for a “choppy October”. See here
We re-iterated our cautious call on the QQQs Oct 15th, catching another 7% move down. See here
At the beginning of last week, we called out a “high bar for swinging at longs” into earnings. Price action has confirmed our view. See here
We don’t always get everything right; for example, we warmed up to PINS at $26 before ad checks took a turn for the worse. We got excited on INTC post-citi conference comments in early Sept before the rug got pulled out from under us.
However, whether we hit or miss, we always aim to provide you with a unique and differentiated perspective on individual tech stocks and the market. We aren’t afraid to stick our neck out and make bold calls.
What will you get as a paid subscriber?
I am offering two tiers:
1. Basic tier: For $45/month ($550 annually), you will receive 2x weekday emails: one in the morning recapping the important news/research for the day (including any trade ideas for the day) and another recapping the day after the close. You will also have access to TMTB chat. This comes out to $1/post.
2. TMTB Pro tier: For $1,150 annually ($95/month) you will also get 2x daily e-mails. In addition, we’ll provide our weekly emails where we get into our views on the market, trade ideas (both short and long term), earnings previews, positioning/sentiment/narrative writeups on the tech landscape, thematic ideas, and more. You will also receive any post-call write ups during earnings season. You will have priority access to email responses and access to TMTB chat.
3. All-access Pro tier: For $5,000 annually you get everything in the Institutional tier & 1 hour of 1-on-1 call time every quarter (1 hour can be spread over multiple calls). This offering will be limited to 5 investors. Please e-mail me for more info.
A few things to note:
Prices are for individual users only. See below for group discounts.
Since substack doesn’t allow me to offer a monthly option on the Institutional tier, I am offering pro-rated refunds for the Institutional Tier if you want to cancel at any point during your subscription.
To expense your subscription, go here for details on how to get an invoice from substack.
How long do you have to subscribe?
Our initial prices are a special offer for founding subs (that’s you!) and the offer will stay valid through this Wednesday, November 1st.
All readers will have complimentary access to all our posts through then.
***After Wednesday, the price of a subscription will go up 20%+.
As long as I am on the substack platform and your subscription remains active, you will be grandfathered in from any future price increases!
Group discounts will be available as follows:
3-5 subs: 15% discount
5-10 subs: 20% discount
10+ subs: 25% discount
Please e-mail tmtbreakout@gmail.com with the subject “Group Discount,” names of e-mails you want included, and what tier you want to sign up for.
Special 33% discount for students:
If you are an undergraduate or MBA student, TMTB is offering a 33% discount to you @ $30/month for the weekday tier and $750 annually for the Institutional Tier. E-mail tmtbreakout@gmail.com with the subject “student discount” from your @.edu address, a picture of your current student id, the year of your graduation, and what tier you want to sign up for.
